Boy, Do I Ever Miss Mike Malloy

Mike Malloy represents everything I once loved about radio. I check in occasionally, in hopes that he's returned to the air (specifically, Net Radio). Not yet, but he has some of his "Best Of" stuff posted, now via the White Rose Society site, another one of my very faves. To me, Lies is one of the coolest of the Best of Malloy pieces, although it's more witty and poignant than it is laugh-out-loud funny (like many of his other pieces).

CNN's DAYBREAK around 6:30 AM ET every Tuesday has Mike Malloy and Neal Boortz (who is very personable, for a Nazi) "duke it out"! Too early for me, though... or, too late... but I digress...

Of course, sometimes Mr. Malloy ticked me off with the arrogant assumption that everyone who claims the Biblical Christ must automatically be some, knuckle-dragging, oppressive, one-step-away-from-the-Taliban-type theocrat. But I can overlook that, as faith untested can't be very strong. And, who knows? The most vitriolic Jesus-bashers (which has become frighteningly fashionable), sometimes become His strongest advocates - St. Paul is a fine example. So, stranger things have happened; hope springs eternal.

Besides, funny is it's own excuse. Malloy is funnier, more thoughtful and more insightful and provocative than all the guys on Radio Air America, put together (in spite of the fact that I embrace Air America's Al Franken, as a favorite author and Air America's Chuck D [from Public Enemy] as one of my favorite bands). For my money, Radio Power is still the real deal, as far as Lefty Net Talk radio goes.

Sometimes it's comforting to know that the whole planet is not over-run with dittoheads, parroting the Clear Channel/Faux News Network agenda in lock-step homogeony. After 5 years, or more, I do not miss the broadcast industry, one single bit... But that's another rant for another post.
